Haitian Egg Vendor
The Xhosa tribe of South Africa uses red face paint after the right of passage to manhood. Among the Pondo tribe of South Africa they add white paint to shows a spiritual connection to their ancestors. This street vendor in the Dominican Republic that sold eggs for a few pesos and lived in a ditch had a great African heritage that I endeavored to capture.
Artist Statement
I am an LCSW that has lived abroad doing social work with disadvantaged populations. I combine my love of art with my desire to serve through doing art therapy with refugees. My art goals are three fold. First, I want to continue teaching young minds through Boy Scouts, Jordan School District, and private lessons. Second, I will continue to volunteer to manage art exhibitions in nearby communities. Third, I desire to master contemporary realism so that I may portray the dignity of humanity, especially the disadvantaged. Ethurston.blogspot.com
